May 30, 2024

Intercultural exchange can expose students around the world to new perspectives on equity, justice, and history. If you are interested in promoting intercultural engagement and learning worldwide, the Master of Arts (MA) in International Training and Education Program (ITEP) at American University could be for you. The program is designed for students who want to teach, manage, or promote educational equity, inclusion, and learning at home or abroad.

Many ITEP alumni work for government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector companies in fields like policy development, social advocacy, teacher training, and intercultural program development. They design training programs for diplomats, manage groups of exchange students for universities, and promote educational equity in other countries.

Who Should Apply to the ITEP Master’s Program?

ITEP students are curious about the world beyond their country’s borders. Their education and experience reflect this. Many ITEP students are former Peace Corps Volunteers; others have taught overseas through the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET), Fulbright, Teach for America, and other partnership programs. Alumna Jody Dixon worked as a language teacher in Yamanashi, Japan; Rebekah Hein worked in international development in Eastern Europe before enrolling.

Candidates must have at least one semester of international study or work experience. Prospective students can strengthen their applications by demonstrating a record of professional teaching or other work outside of their home countries.
